Today, Friday, the instant messaging service Telegram has officially announced support for the video calling feature, to celebrate the 7 years since its launch.

The service said in a post: “Today marks the seventh anniversary of the launch of Telegram. We started in 2013 as a small application focused on secure messaging, and since then we have evolved into a platform with more than 400 million users. She added, "Telegram is now on the list of the 10 most downloaded apps and used all over the world to keep in touch with family, collaborate with classmates and coordinate with co-workers."

Telegram is proud that it did not reach this stage alone, as it never launched any advertising campaigns, but all users have joined the application based on recommendations from people they trust.

The service indicated that the year 2020 highlighted the importance of face-to-face communication, so as of today, the initial version of video calls is available on Android. Users can initiate a video call from the other contact page and turn the camera on or off at any time during the call. Like all videos in Telegram, video calls support picture-in-picture mode, which will allow users to read conversations and do other things during calls.

Telegram confirmed that all video calls are encrypted from start to finish. Video calling will get more features and updates in later releases, as it is working on rolling out conference video calls in the coming months.

It is noteworthy that the video call feature is not available to Telegram users via the iOS system, and the service attributed this to that Apple failed to review this update in a timely manner, although it provided the update to the application store several days before it was sent to the Play Store.

Telegram said: “If you are using iOS and want to try video calling; You should wait for Apple to allow you, or switch to a system that has some respect for its users and developers, such as Android.

This, and the latest version of the Telegram application for Android phones can be downloaded from Play Store, and for iPhones and iPads from App Store, and it can also be downloaded to personal computers from its website.
