How to update iPhone to iOS 14:
Updates don't always go perfect, which is why it is smart to backup
your phone data before switching to iOS 14 and if your data is deleted by
mistake you will be able to restore it from the backup.
To find out the last time your phone was backed up in iCloud, go to
Settings, then Apple ID, then iCloud, then iCloud Backup. Once you are
there, you will have the option Back Up Now.
Once you have backed up the data on your iPhone, click the Settings icon then General then Software Update, and you will likely see a
